Riesa

Riesa is a town with in the district Riesa-Grobenhain in Saxony, located in Germany. It is located at the river Elbe, approximately 40 kilometers to the northwest of Dresden in the same district of Riesa-Grobenhain. The city had a population 36,758 as of 2005. The area of the city is 58.70 square kilometers with a population density of 626 per square kilometer. The world's first 110 kilovolts-power line was inaugurated between Riesa and Lauchhammer in 1912. Riesa has a 25 meter tall iron sculpture of an oak trunk, named Elbquelle sculptured by Jorg Immendorff.
 
Riesa is also said to be as one of the best geographical environment and can trace its origins back to prehistoric times. This is evident from the archaeological sites found throughout the Riesa town. Today, one can also learn about its history, from its earliest times and pursue enthusiasm in its natural beauty and populace.
