Lorrach

Germany is located in Central Europe and it shares borders with Denmark in the North, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and France in the West, Austria and Switzerland in the South and Poland and the Czech Republic in the East. The North Sea and the Baltic Sea represent additional National Borders in the North. The official language of Germany is German and Berlin is the capital.

Lorrach is a city, which is situated in south-west Germany, in the valley of the Wiese, close to the French and the Swiss border. It is the capital of the district Lorrach in Baden-Wurttemberg. The biggest industry is the chocolate factory Milka. The city had a population of 10,794 in 1905 and now 47,169 in year 2006. The area of the city is 39.42 square kilometers with a population density of 1,193 per square kilometers.

Near the city of Lorrach is the castle of Rotteln on the Wiesental, whose lords became the counts of Hachberg and a residence of the margraves of Baden and this, was destroyed by the troops of Louis XIV in 1678, but was rebuilt in 1867. Lorrach received market rights in 1403, but did not obtain the privileges of a city until 1682. After the Napoleonic epoch the town was included in the Grand Duchy of Baden. Lorrach is the hometown of Ottmar Hitzfeld, one of the most successful and most popular football managers in Germany.

Presently, Lorrach experiences a sharp social, economic and population growth derivative of the strategic position of the locality and the high level of well-being and quality of life that is enjoyed with respect to other places of Germany. Lorrach, justifiably so, enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers, and is one of the most visited place.
