Lippstadt is a city in the district of Soest, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It has an estimated population of over 70,000 inhabitants. The area of the city is 113.3 square kilometers with a population density of 636 per square kilometer. The historic city center is placed between an artificial canal of the river Lippe and the river itself. In 1944, a female subcamp of Buchenwald was founded in Lippstadt. It was also the site for a displaced persons camp in the years following World War II. The nearby cities in the city include such as Paderborn, Soest, Erwitte and Geseke.
 
At the industry economy, Lippstadt serves as the headquarters of international automotive supplier Hella. It is also home to a factory of large-diameter antifriction bearings, seamless-rolled rings manufacturer Rothe Erde. Presently, Lippstadt experiences a sharp social, economic and population growth derivative of the strategic position of the locality and the high level of well-being and quality of life that is enjoyed with respect to other places of Germany.
