Langenfeld is a town in North-Rhine-Westphalia, Germany in the district of Mettmann. The suburban city is located between Dusseldorf and Cologne. Langenfeld was formed from the two localities of Richrath and Reusrath and received city rights in 1948. The population of the city as of 2003 was 58,899. The area of the city is 41.1 square kilometers with a population density of 1,433 per square kilometer and the city is elevated at about 51 meters above the sea level.
 
Langenfeld is accessed by nearby highways A3, A59 and A542, as well as the Bundesstrasse B8. The mainline railway from Dusseldorf to Cologne runs through the town's area as well. Public transport is provided in the city by the S-Bahn line S6 and various bus lines. The nearest airports are Dusseldorf International and Cologne Bonn Airport.
