Offenburg




Germany is located in Central Europe and it shares borders with Denmark in the North, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and France in the West, Austria and Switzerland in the South and Poland and the Czech Republic in the East. The North Sea and the Baltic Sea represent additional National Borders in the North. The official language of Germany is German and Berlin is the capital. The climate is quite pleasant with almost all variety of seasonal flavors as temperate, marine, cool, cloudy, wet winters and summers, occasional warm, tropical foehn wind and high relative humidity.
 
Offenburg is a city located in the state of Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany. With over 50,000 inhabitants, it is the largest city, and also the capital of the Ortenaukreis. Offenburg is located near the Rhine between Karlsruhe and Freiburg. The French city of Strasbourg lies directly west across the Rhine. Offenburg lies at the mouth of the Kinzig river valley. Offenburg is located near the Rhine between Karlsruhe and Freiburg. The population of the city in 2005 was  58,821 and covers an area of 78.39 square kilometers. Population density is  750 per square kilometers and has an elevation of 160 meters from the sea level.
 
The city is first mentioned in historical documents dating from 1148. By 1240 Offenburg had already been declared a free city. The city was nearly totally destroyed in the nine years war. In 1803 Offenburg lost its status as a free city and fell under the rulership of the Grand Duchy of Baden. The Offenburger Program which contained thirteen demands in the name of the people of Baden was declared at the Salmen Inn on September 12, 1847 in the run-up to the Badish Revolution during the revolutions of 1848. This was the first democratic demand in Germany. Along with the Karlsbad Resolves, the Offenburger Programm demanded basic and human rights as well as freedom of the press and a progressive income tax structure.
 
Offenburg, justifiably so, enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers, and is one of the most visited place. It is also said the place of best geographical environment and can trace its origin back to prehistoric times. Presently, Offenburg experiences a sharp social, economic and population growth derivative of the strategic position of the locality and the high level of well-being and quality of life that is enjoyed with respect to other places of Germany.
