Germany is divided into 16 states which are further subdivided into 439 districts and cities. Germany is one of the largest European economy and the third largest economy in the world in real terms, placed behind the United States and Japan, and fifth behind the United States, China, India and Japan counted by purchasing power parity.
Oberhausen is a municipality in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is located in the Ruhr area, 35 kilometers to the north of Dusseldorf. In 2003, the population of the city was 220,033. The city is a result of economic development in the 19th century. It was but a rural area until about 1860, when coal mines were opened and the production of steel started to turn big areas of present’s city into a huge industrial complex.
Oberhausen is a distinctive city of the Ruhr area, which had been growing around industries. At present the city is trying to get a new standing. In the 1990s a huge shopping mall, CentrO was built on an abandoned steel works site. There is an art gallery calls Gasometer and an international award festival for short films in Oberhausen. Oberhausen is an attractive city with natural beauty and historical places, while traveling in Germany.
