Neubrandenburg is a city in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany. It is situated in the southeastern part of the state, at the shore of a lake called the Tollensesee. Neubrandenburg has preserved its medieval city wall in its integrity. The wall is 7 meters high and with a perimeter of 2.3 kilometers. It has four Gothic town gates, dating back to the 14th and 15th centuries. Neubrandenburg has an area of 85.65 kilometers with population of 68,583 in the year 2005. The foundation of the town of Neubrandenburg took place in 1248, when the margrave of Brandenburg decided to build a town in the northern part of his fief. In 1292, the town and the surrounding area became part of Mecklenburg. It flourished as a trade center until thirty years' war from 1618 to 1648, after which it declined.

Neubrandenburg, justifiably so, enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers, and is one of the most visited place. It is also said the place of best geographical environment and can trace its origin back to prehistoric times. Presently, Neubrandenburg experiences a sharp social, economic and population growth derivative of the strategic position of the locality and the high level of well-being and quality of life that is enjoyed with respect to other places of Germany.
