Hattingen

Hattingen is a German municipality in the district of Ennepe-Ruhr in North Rhine-Westphalia, which in terms of population and economic output, the largest Federal State of Germany. Hattingen is located on the Ruhr in the South of Ruhr Area and has a historical town centre. The neighbouring towns are Bochum, Essen, Sprockhovel, Velbert, Witten and Wuppertal.
 
Hattingen is situated at an altitude from 60 to 306 meters above sea level. As of 2005, it had a population of 57,668 living within an area of 71.4 square kilometers and has a population density of 808 inhabitants per square kilometer.
Hattingen is divided into the quarters of Blankenstein with Burg Blankenstein, Bredenscheid-Stuter, Hattingen-Mitte, Holthausen, Niederbonsfeld, Niederelfringhausen, Niederwenigern, Oberelfringhausen, Oberstuter, Welper and Winz-Baak
