Duren




Germany is located in Central Europe and it shares borders with Denmark in the North, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and France in the West, Austria and Switzerland in the South and Poland and the Czech Republic in the East. The North Sea and the Baltic Sea represent additional National Borders in the North. The official language of Germany is German and Berlin is the capital. The climate is quite pleasant with almost all variety of seasonal flavors as temperate, marine, cool, cloudy, wet winters and summers, occasional warm, tropical foehn wind and high relative humidity.
 
Duren a municipality in North Rhine-Westphalia, is the capital of Duren district. It is situated between Aachen and Cologne next to Rur River. It has a population of more than 90,000 inhabitants. Its history started more than 2000 years ago prior to Christ's birth, where Celts lived. They called it as Durum and after the Celts, other Germanic tribes settled in this region. Durum became a supply area for the rapidly growing Roman city of Cologne. Furthermore, the Romans remained in the area for about 400 years.
 
After the rule of Romans in the 5th century, Franconians arrived in Duren. The Franconian king, Pippin der Kleine visited Duren in the 8th century and held some important conventions. He was the father of the famous emperor, Charlemagne. The Franconians made Durum a royal castle. It was known as Pfalz and Charlemagne sojurned sometimes there. The castle was build at the place where today the Church of Saint Anne is situated. Because of the visits of Charlemagne, some markets sprang up, like corn market, cattle market, wood market, chicken market, and butter market, which contributed to Duren's improvement.
 
Duren can be considered as the preeminent, historical and potential tourism destination that enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers to become one of the most visited places.
