Augsburg
Germany is located in Central Europe and it shares borders with Denmark in the North, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and France in the West, Austria and Switzerland in the South and Poland and the Czech Republic in the East. The North Sea and the Baltic Sea represent additional National Borders in the North. The official language of Germany is German and Berlin is the capital. The climate is quite pleasant with almost all variety of seasonal flavors as temperate, marine, cool, cloudy, wet winters and summers, occasional warm, tropical foehn wind and high relative humidity. Germany is divided into 16 states which are further subdivided into 439 districts and cities.
Augsburg is a city in south-central Germany. It is the capital of the Swabia administrative region of Bavaria, and is located at the confluence of the Wertach and Lech rivers. It has a population of 276,193. It has a total area of 146.78 square kilometers and population density of 1,780 per square kilometers. The city was founded in 15th century in the reign of Roman emperor, Augustus as a garrison called Augusta Vindelicorum. It was laid to waste by the Huns in the fifth century, by Charlemagne in the eighth, and by Welf of Bavaria in the eleventh.
Augsburg became an Imperial Free City on March 9, 1276. Given its strategic location on the trade routes to Italy, it became a major trading centre. It produced large quantities of woven goods, cloth and textiles, and was the base for the Fugger banking empire. The Fuggerei, part of the city devoted to housing for the needy citizens of Augsburg, was founded in 1516 and is still in use today.
In Education, Augsburg is home to the following universities and colleges. It’s University of Augsburg, founded in 1970 and Fachhochschule Augsburg. A city known for its historic myths and traditions, scenic beauty, luxurious hotels and cottages, Augsburg is one of the favorite holiday destinations for most of the vacation lovers.
